Here is why:
Ever since I moved near Denver, my Comcast internet service has really given me a headache. In order to host your own web server, you need to have an IP address that does not change very often because why you type in the address www.dazzos.com, you actualy go to a DNS server, and that server tells you what IP address to find my site at. When my IP address keeps changing it gets hard to keep the DNS up to date. Imagine having a phone number that keeps changing every few days. How do you keep everyone that knows your name able to know your number? You would have to keep changing all the directories - except the paper ones, you can only change them once a year. This is very similar to the problem Comcast keeps doing to me in order to thwart my enjoyment of hosting my own server. Because the more traffic I get to my website, the more bandwidth I use of Comcasts internet cables. They do their best to stop this from happening.
They also do other nasties to me. I like to torrent and download things such as podcasts, and movies off of netflix. This also uses Comcasts bandwidth. They do not like this. So those days that I do allot of this, I find that my internet service keeps cutting out for an hour here and an hour there. I have had five service visits from "skilled" technicians who have all said the same thing. They cannot find the cause of the problem. They all deny the fact that Comcast is doing this purposefully but I know better ( I am not a conspiracy theorist!).
I can go a month without interupted service, and my IP address remains the same. But then when things get a litle busy, I get some traffic to my website, and more importantly - I do some downloads, torrents, and some netflix movies and all of a sudden my internet connection goes down for an hour several times a day.
Is there a coincidence? I should actually start to log and track what I do and when it goes down, but I don't have that much free time. Just know that Comcast sucks and when I can find the time and money to get a different provider, I will.
